Testimonials

What a welcoming community! A great first-time experience with RV Care-A-Vanners. We would love to return to Pagosa. - Bill & Linda Bayles (May 2019)

Thanks again for having us as volunteers out at the build last week. We really learned a lot and had a great time. SUCH a great time that I've submitted our application to volunteer with Habitat's RV Care-A-Vanners in New Mexico in the spring. I'd sign up for something sooner but it's the soonest we are available since I've already booked our RV travel accommodations through then. I also wanted to share with you the little blurb I wrote up about our experience on my travel blog-

I wish you the best of the luck with this build and future projects!

Thanks so much, Heatherly Chenet

"Having a Habitat house allowed me to provide a stable life for my kids. The mortgage is so affordable that I didn't have to rely on food stamps or other assistance programs. I'm able to do it on my own." - Robin Metz, House #20 Partner Family

Through volunteer labor and donations of money & materials, we build affordable homes for working families. We chose families based on need and ability to pay a low interest mortgage. Partner families also invest 250 hours of sweat equity into building their home.

Giving Activity

Mission

Seeking to put God's love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.

Vision statement: A world where everyone has a decent place to live.

Habitat for Humanity of Archuleta County builds confidence; strong ties between compassionate volunteers and new homeowners; a richer community through shared hope and common effort amongst caring people of all faiths; and simple, decent houses for families in need.

Background Statement

Habitat for Humanity of Archuleta County (HfHAC) was founded in 1994 as an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International in Americus, Georgia. While the affiliate associates with Habitat for Humanity International, it is a separate, independently governed and funded organization. In the early 1990's a local community member saw the work of Habitat for Humanity in Arizona and quickly realized that the need for affordable housing in Archuleta County was prevalent and believed the local community would embrace an organization such as Habitat. The population demographics of Archuleta County reflect a unique dichotomy and provide a perfect setting for HfHAC. On one hand there are a growing number of affluent households, retirees, and second-homeowners who are looking for avenues to give back to the community. Over fifty percent of homeowners in Archuleta County are second homeowners. On the other hand there are a rising number of households representing area natives and families engaged in low to moderate income employment from a service-based economy. This second group is asking for help because their wages have not kept pace with the rapid rise in the local cost of living. HfHAC has built 27 homes and repaired 27 homes for 70 adults and 104 children. This year's home was completed in November 2019 for a school district employee and her two children.
