Background Statement
Habitat for Humanity of Montrose County became an affiliate in July 1991. Since then, our dedicated staff and volunteers have built 60 Habitat homes and completed more than 75 home repairs. Our newest triplex in Ridgway is now complete, and we have finished a home for a Veteran family in Montrose. Currently, we have eight homes under construction across Montrose County, all planned for move-in in 2026. Future plans include a new subdivision at Niagara and 6700 in Montrose County.
Since 1996, we have developed the Mesa Vista and West Meadows subdivisions in Montrose. In 2014, we expanded our service area to include San Miguel and Ouray counties. With the acquisition of six homes in Norwood, we formally became Habitat for Humanity of the San Juans. In 2016, we began transitioning from single-family homes to multi-family developments. With the purchase of an empty lot in downtown Montrose, construction began on a triplex in the fall of 2017. The Park Avenue Triplex, dedicated in December 2019, provides three families the opportunity to achieve their dream of homeownership simultaneously. In November 2019, ground was broken on our 56th home in the West Meadows subdivision, and the family celebrated their first holiday season “at home” in 2020.
Our affiliate also tithes quarterly to Habitat for Humanity International, supporting families around the world in achieving safe, affordable housing.
