$5,000 Goal

Growing Stars Inc provides opportunities for IDD (Individuals with Developmental Disabilities) participants in Larimer County to work together with peers/volunteers to raise and harvest organic produce that can be used to create healthy meals and sell at the local farmers markets.

Our program participants learn how to grow their own organic agricultural products, make healthy meals and learn how to interact with the public as they market and sell the products they create.

Our IDD participants feel empowered and happy when they work in the garden.  It is wonderful to see the smiles on their faces when they pick their produce.   They learn about and have access to healthy, organic food.   They improve social skills via interacting with the public and develop money management and business skills.   The public gets to interact with and gain a better understanding of IDD individuals to build a stronger, more inclusive community.

Giving Activity

Mission

Improve the health and quality of life for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities by using a holistic approach to nutrition and increased integration into society through organic agriculture.

Background Statement

Our organization is inspired by our daughter, Anika. Anika is an adult with Down Syndrome and does not have a middle name. She gave herself the middle name of "Star". This inspired us to name our non-profit "Growing Stars" as we hope to create many IDD agricultural stars over the next several years.
