Greenhouse

A nonprofit organization

Sustainable, generational change in under-resourced communities has proven difficult to achieve. Greenhouse is changing that paradigm by working from within – partnering with the most  inspiring young leaders and surrounding them with a powerful, lifelong community. Together,  we’re launching and scaling bold initiatives that are transforming communities across our  country and the world.

Here are some examples that bring our work to life:

  • We’re completely altering the story and trajectory for first-generation, under-resourced college students with our Whole Person approach. The result has over 95% of them  graduating, with less debt than their peers, and starting salaries double their parent’s income.
  • We’re helping dozens of Greenhouse entrepreneurs bring their ideas to life through  coaching, business planning, and funding, resulting in thriving, community-rooted  businesses.
  • We’ve created and fully funded a research study that overlays existing data and studies  with new, proprietary research to determine the most effective avenues to effect  community change at scale and achieve the outcomes we are pursuing through our  Community Change Model.
  • We’ve helped launch a Latino Community Center to serve as a hub for culture and  opportunity to revitalize two bordering neighborhoods.
  • We’re scaling access to higher education through a higher education scholarship resources enterprise called Securing Degrees, which has already helped over 3,000  students graduate college debt-free.
  • We’re creating jobs and youth development opportunities in rural towns by providing  coaching, consulting, and funding to businesses like Gub Gub’s Pizza, offering a new  model for sustainable community revitalization.
  • We’re bringing the full strength of our committed community to bear in launching and  growing Banner Signs. With a Greenhouse alum as CEO, the company is profitable,  growing, and employing and mentoring staff from similar backgrounds.

We are a movement of changemakers, transforming the cycle of opportunity in communities  across the country. With 20 years of proven results, we are scaling our impact with great  momentum and urgency.

Mission

Create a community of leaders who will evolve the communities of the world.

Background Statement

Founded in Colorado in 2005, Greenhouse started following an analysis about college persistence rates and the power of education as the fundamental solution for a broad array of issues. A first of its kind, Greenhouse was one of the only organizations supporting students during college with services that went beyond scholarships alone; Greenhouse provided and continues to provide personal, professional, and financial resources to students from underserved backgrounds. The program demonstrated consistently strong results for individual students, so in 2013 the organization shifted to leverage the Scholars as leaders and role models who could positively impact whole communities.

The organization proved its mettle during COVID and came out of the past two years with even stronger program results and more constituents. Now, we are uniquely positioned to bring extraordinary leaders (Scholars, alumni, and supporters) together across socio-economic, political, racial, generational, and geographic divides, using those differences as strengths to solve critical issues. This is an inflection point for our organization as we launch our full Community Change Model and new Young Leaders Program.
