Goodwill provides education, career development, and employment opportunities to help Coloradans in need achieve self-sufficiency, dignity, and hope through the Power of Work.
Goodwill was founded in 1918 at the Epworth Church in Denver. The organization's work is based on Reverend Edgar J. Helms' philosophy that a person's self-worth should come "not from charity, but from chance."
For nearly 100 years, Goodwill has provided training and career development to unemployed, low-income and disabled adults in Denver. Goodwill recognized an opportunity in 1992 to help break the cycle of poverty by building a bridge between teens' education and their future employment. Today, Goodwill is one of the largest providers of youth services in the Denver metro area serving nearly 18,000 at-risk students.
Goodwill's 30+ mission-driven thrift stores provide affordable clothing and household items to the public, create employment opportunities (50% of retail employees report having a disability or other disadvantaging condition) and generate revenue toward achieving Goodwill's mission. 92 cents of every dollar generated through our retail operations and 100% of all financial contributions fund Goodwill's career development programs.
