Background Statement
GoFarm was founded in 2014 due to a growing need to build a robust local food system that secures fair prices for farmers, promotes environmentally-sustainable farming practices, and makes sustainably-grown food affordable and accessible to everyone in our community.
We have since expanded to three programs:
- Community Food Access Program: We reduce barriers around accessing and affording local food and invite everyone to be part of their local food system. We run a mobile market shopping experience at sites where there are greater barriers to access fresh food. We offer a flexible pricing model so people can pay what works for them. Market sites include the Arvada, Head Start in Arvada, Eaton Senior Living Community, Juanita Nolasco Residences, and Littleton Hospital. GoFarm also provides fresh produce to local food banks, school organizations, and other partners who are addressing hunger in our community. GoFarm welcomes SNAP Benefits, Double Up Food Bucks, and offers a discount program.
- Farmer Development and Support Program: FDS is helping to develop the next generation of farmers. We train and support new and aspiring farmers in regenerative agriculture, with a focus on people from historically marginalized groups like BIPOC, LGBTQ2S+, women and immigrants.
In 2024, FDS trained 25 beginning farmers and contracted with 40 established local farmers and subject experts to provide mentorship support.
- Local Food Share Program: LFS utilizes a multi-farm, membership-based community-supported agriculture model. Shareholders pay for a full 20-week season of food produced by local farmers and from our own Farmer Development Support Incubators. Members pick up weekly food shares, try new recipes, and interact with the GoFarm community. LFS also supports local vendors by providing free vendor space to community members to build their network even further with an established customer base.
In addition to building a more community-centered local food system, we are providing food with the optimal nutritional density and less of a carbon footprint, versus produce that is purchased by grocery stores that has traveled thousands of miles and has been ripened with artificial light. By supporting LFS customers are directly supporting local farmers, which supports our community at large.
