Testimonials

Community Health Clubs in Kenya -
"We have three community health and development clubs in our first county, Kisii, Kenya. We are currently in three villages in Kisii County i.e. Mokubo, Biombe and Tabaka. Our First community health and development club was in Mokubo where we surveyed 145 households and held weekly health training for six months. Some of the topics in the weekly trainings included WASH, Nutrition, communicable diseases, gender based violence and teen pregnancies. During our trainings we had model projects that we set in the health clubs that included kitchen garden, latrine and safe water protection. We did them in the most economical way so that the club members could be capable of implementing their own in their households. So far we have five members who have made latrines similar to the model that we built them, 80% of the members have kitchen gardens now and they can sell their produce and make an income. Generally the hygiene and sanitation level in most households has improved, more shower shelter have been built in some households. Currently we are in our second stage of economic empowerment and it is in their third week, we are currently having different activities that are taking place in this stage that include, poultry farming, vegetables and fruit farming, bee keeping, fodder, soap making and financial management sessions. A total of 125 members made to their graduation in July 2021, and this is the number that proceeded to the next stage of economic empowerment.

In Biombe community Health and development club, we have a total of 250 members and we are having their weekly health trainings and they are in their fifth month and their graduation will be coming soon. A good number of members have started kitchen gardens and their hygiene and sanitation level also has improved compared to the time when the survey was done.

Nyabiosi community health and development club in Tabaka village, is our youngest club and it is at its fifth month with a total of 75 members, after the trainings that have taken place 90 % of the households have kitchen gardens and they can now sell their produce and make income, kitchen gardens have also reduced the buying of vegetables daily for their families. The trainings and gathering weekly has motivated most members to generally improve hygienically."

Global Water Challenge -
Haiti - Only 25% of births are attended by a health professional in Haiti because there are few health professionals or facilities. This is why Haiti has the highest maternal mortality rate in the western hemisphere. Global Health Connections stepped in to build and provide a much needed Maternity Center in Leogane, Haiti after the 2010 earthquake. While other NGOs did disaster relief and left, Global Health Connections stayed and helped the Haitian community for the long term. This was an exceptional gift to the people of Leogane and Haiti. The Maternity Center has and continues to provide services and save countless lives. Mesi anpil (many thanks) Global Health Connections! You will always be welcomed in Haiti. - Dr. Joseph Charles, CEO and surgeon, Haitian owned and operated CAMEJO Hospital in Leogane, Haiti.

Global Water Challenge -
"The Global Health Connections team provided students a powerful forum to develop a deep understanding of global water issues. The program and competition fostered critical thinking in more than a thousand students who through collaboration, problem-solving, and mentoring by healthcare professionals were given the tools to become the next generation of changemakers." - Sue Counterman, Science Teacher at Colorado Academy, Littleton, Colorado, USA

Mission

To connect, engage, and empower individuals to improve the health and sustainability of their community.

Background Statement

Established in 2004 in Colorado, USA, Global Health Connections began as an educational outreach organization that connected individuals in Colorado to nations around the world. GHC became international and is solving real global health issues. GHC helped build a maternity clinic in Haiti, and is now creating Community Health and Empowerment Clubs in Kenya, Africa.

Many people want to help others in a place like Kenya, but they aren't quite sure how to do it. Just donating money and things to people in need is only a short term solution, which ultimately creates a dependency culture. The best way to help with sustainable development is to provide some resources so that local leaders can empower villagers to learn life skill basics. Through relationships that GHC has developed over the years, we have people locally who can help villagers improve their living conditions including improved health, nutrition, sanitation, and entrepreneurial skills. You can support these efforts through a straight donation to GHC. All donated money goes to village work in Kenya. Or you might want to adopt your own village and witness and learn how your resources can improve the lives of many. You will be rewarded a hundred times over for the happiness and opportunity you bring others. It's a wonderful thing to do!
