Global Village Academy Douglas County is a tuition-free, public charter school with language immersion instruction in English and the choice of Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, and French. It is one of the only schools in the nation to provide the opportunity to take official government language proficiency tests in French or Mandarin Chinese.
Our students develop a GLOBAL perspective by learning a second language, exploring diverse cultures to cultivate understanding and respect, and developing the skills to live and work with others internationally – all essential for life in the 21st century. With the world as the context for education, students need to find their place, voice, and dream.
Our VILLAGE provides the support and the challenge to motivate students to excel in school and life. Their success depends upon their initiative and the support of peers, teachers, parents, and the wider community.
The ACADEMY has always symbolized rigorous education, critical thinking abilities, and a love of knowledge. Through structured inquiry, students explore multi-disciplinary units that span each language village. These units integrate core subjects and encourage students to ask questions and make discoveries in their search for knowledge.

From Lilyanna's Family:
"I grew up among the Hispanic culture my entire life. I have watched my friend’s grandmother make homemade tortillas and have watched the colorful flowing dresses of the dancers in New Mexico. I have always longed to be able to speak Spanish, so I decided to give my daughter the gift of a second language. I want her to be able to grow up and be able to talk to her people in our community in Spanish. I hope she can use her language abilities in the future to support herself in this ever-growing world.”
From Grace's Family:
"We enrolled our daughter at GVA to open doors for her and to expand her mind and way of thinking that only a bilingual and multi-cultural education can. At first, it was intimidating for my wife and me as we are not bilingual, but GVA Douglas County warmly welcomed our kindergartener and us. We love the intimate feeling of the school and staff. My daughter is excited to go to school and eager to learn a language that her mom and dad don’t know. It’s been an enjoyable experience thus far!”
