Testimonials

"WOW…where do I start? My daughter and I came to meet Amy, Jen and the horses through a recommendation from my daughter's occupational therapist. When she explained what hippotherapy was and that I'd be putting my daughter on a giant horse, I laughed at the thought of it. Upon meeting Amy, Jen and Bo for her evaluation I immediately felt comfortable putting my daughter in their healing hands and on Bo's strong back. What a magical weekly event during my life in Colorado, watching my two year old learn so much about herself while riding, kneeling and standing on the back of a beautiful horse." - Megan Oliviero, parent of client

Mission

Front Range Hippotherapy is a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of people with disabilities, and their caregivers, through the provision of physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech and language pathology services while incorporating the horse and its movement as an essential therapeutic tool.

Background Statement

Front Range Hippotherapy was founded in 2006 by Amy Meilen, PT. After several years practicing in the field of physical therapy, and receiving her Hippotherapy credentials, she contracted with several different facilities that offered Hippotherapy as an adjunct to their therapeutic riding programs. Disenchanted with the lack of emphasis on the value of this amazing tool as a valid medical intervention, and receiving lowest priority of facility and horse use, Amy decided to branch out on her own to establish the only facility along the Front Range offering exclusively Hippotherapy. The facility was purchased in North Boulder/West Longmont, along Highway 36 in order to see the widest geographical client base and remain a convenient location.

Front Range Hippotherapy started with 8-10 clients/weekly using 4 horses - two of Amy's personal horses, and two that were purchased for the organization. Amy was the sole practitioner and worked 6 days/week. The volunteer base was five, very good friends.

Today, Front Range Hippotherapy's current client base exceeds 60 and we see an average of 40-60 clients/weekly during our busy season, and between 20-30 during the 'down season'. Our Therapists include PT, PTA, OT, and SLP. Our volunteer base is approximately 30, with 15-20 active weekly volunteers.
