Advocacy and Enthusiasm of Colorado Parks & Wildlife's (CPW) mission and support of its initiatives.

Assist and support new and existing Parks and Friends groups by providing guidance, educational opportunities, coordination of resources, and advocacy for their programs to achieve shared objectives. 

Collaborating with Colorado Parks and Wildlife, local Friends groups, and other organizations to maintain and enhance Colorado State Parks for future generations.

Community Engagement by providing a welcoming and encouraging environment for the diversity and inclusiveness of all, along with enabling them with assistance and education for Park stewardship.

The Friends of Colorado State Parks Board of Directors is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to supporting the mission of Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW). We assist and strengthen existing and new State Park Friends volunteer groups by:

• Protecting and restoring natural resources across 42 state parks

• Building community engagement year-round

• Providing resources, technical guidance, and educational support

• Encouraging collaboration among Friends groups statewide

Since 2001, the Friends of Colorado State Parks (FCSP) has united volunteer groups in their shared mission to protect and enhance Colorado’s most treasured landscapes.

• Board of Directors: 7 members, representing diverse regions of Colorado

• Role: Support Friends groups through networking, training, and fiscal management

• Funding Needs: Limited operational funding due to statewide dispersion of board members.

• Annual statewide in-person volunteer meetings

• Quarterly remote collaboration and education sessions

• Financial assistance for State Park projects (when funds are available)

• Guidelines, procedures, and fiscal agency services for local groups

🤝 What is a Local Friends Group?

Local Friends groups are volunteer-led organizations dedicated to the stewardship of individual Colorado State Parks. Their work includes:

• Promoting protection and enhancement of park resources

• Partnering with CPW and natural resource agencies

• Providing physical labor for projects and programs

• Advocating for conservation and recreation initiatives

• Offering education and outreach, including to underserved communities

• Supporting funding needs for park programs and improvements.
