If you've ever visited Barr Lake State Park, you know what a special place it is. Not only the natural beauty provided by the lake, trees and native plants, but the wildlife and bird watching is truly spectacular. With fishing, hunting blinds, two archery ranges, paddleboarding, kayaking, tracks chairs, biking, hiking, horseback riding...the Park provides opportunities for everyone to engage with their natural surroundings. Barr Lake also hosts between 50 - 100 events each year, from Toddler Story Time and birthday parties, to the Great Brighton Camp Out, the Harvest Festival, and so many more.
Barr Lake State Park does not receive any funds from the State of Colorado. The primary sources of funding for state parks in Colorado are user fees and grants.

Friends of Barr Lake State Park (Friends) started in 2010. We have a seven-person Board of Directors, and we are membership based. 100% of membership dues, and funds raised through grants and donations, go to supporting recreation, education and conservation efforts at Barr Lake State Park. Past examples of projects funded (fully or partially) by Friends include: the ADA accessible fishing pier; the two track chairs; Eagle express vehicles; the archery range; raptor education programs; Leave no Trace; and countless events at the park each year.
