Free Spiritual Community

A nonprofit organization

FREE is a Spiritual Community for Addicts, Loved Ones of Addicts, and Spiritual Refugees. Many consider it their spiritual home, their church, or just a safe place where WE DON'T SHAME! We are experiencing an epidemic in our community and FREE is stepping up to meet the growing needs.

Testimonials

One Community member, Kavita D., posted recently on Facebook: "I felt like I didn't have to worry about being shameful of my history and I could just be here and be a part of....that's the thing about addiction...it isolates you. This place of Coffee and FREE and Community it's a place of inclusion."

An online attendee posted: I honestly was afraid of Saturday nights when I was first getting sober, afraid I wouldn't "enjoy" myself anymore, as if being fall down drunk was "fun".... I look forward to my Saturday nights now like I never imagined I would...... I am so grateful for FREE spiritual community and the love I feel from each of you.

Very recently two un-related individuals approached Rev. Ryan after their first Saturday night attendance and literally proclaimed "FREE has saved my life tonight. Thank you."

"I didn't pull the trigger" was the Celebration shared by one FREE attendee during a Saturday night service. Unfortunately the need for our outreach is real and growing, likely more than we even realize.

Mission

FREE's Mission is to Break the Silence of Addiction while creating space for Healing, Recovery and Spiritual Connection.

Background Statement

Rev. Ryan Canaday is a recovering alcoholic, sober for 8 years, and an ordained Elder in the United Methodist Church. FREE was created in the backyard of Ryan and Tami Canaday in June of 2018 to provide community outreach and a welcoming space for Addicts, Loved Ones of Addicts, and Spiritual Refugees.

FREE quickly outgrew its space in the Canaday's backyard and leased a retail space at 7939 E. Arapahoe in Greenwood Village in November, of 2018. Despite the restrictions required by COVID, FREE has continued to grow and now is urgently looking for new space to continue its mission and expand its reach.

Concurrent with the in-person meetings which were impacted by COVID, FREE developed a robust and well received live streaming presence which draws weekly viewers from such disparate places as Arizona, California, Texas, Florida, Michigan, and North Carolina.

FREE continues to experience tremendous growth both in-person and online. We have experienced growth of 100% in our in-person attendance, and more than doubled our digital footprint via social media platforms. Given our recent growth, we developed a kids and family wholeness program which launched in September 2021 to address the growing needs regarding issues of addiction and recovery for entire families.
