YOU can be the reason a child who is blind or low vision

learns to ski or goes to camp!

Meet Alex, one of our low vision program participants. His parents would like to share his story.

"When Alex first started participating in Foresight’s programs, we hoped he would have fun and try something new. What we didn't expect was how much the experience would change the way he sees himself!"

"Thanks to Foresight, Alex gets to take on challenges, spend time outdoors, and try activities he might never have had the chance to experience otherwise. With patient mentors beside him, he has learned to trust himself, take risks, and push beyond what he thought was possible. He comes home so proud of what he has accomplished - and as parents, that's what means the most to us."

"Traditional youth sports haven't always been a place where Alex feels he can excel. Foresight is different. The program is designed for blind and low-vision youth, so Alex isn't focused on keeping up with sighted peers. He can discover his own strengths, build confidence, and feel successful on his own terms. He has also found a community of young people who understand his experiences. The friendships and memories they are building will stay with him for a lifetime."

"Accessible recreation can be difficult to find, and for families already managing the added costs of raising a child with unique vision needs, it can also be out of reach financially. Because Foresight removes those barriers, Alex has been able to discover a whole world of opportunity - and our family has found a community, too. The impact lasts far beyond any single activity or season. We see it in Alex's confidence, his sense of adventure, and his belief in what he can do."

Show YOUR support for individuals who are

blind or experiencing low vision

A gift during Colorado Youth Sports Giving Day will help more youth who are blind and low vision find that same confidence, connection, and sense of possibility that Alex found participating in Foresight's programs.

Mission

Foresight promotes safety, fun and independence for people with blindness or low vision and cultivates an individual's unlimited potential. Foresight does this through accessible and goal-oriented outdoor adaptive experiences.

Background Statement

Foresight Ski Guides (Foresight) was founded in 2001 with the goal of using skiing and snowboarding to create positive and impactful change in the lives of people who are blind or low vision. Our programs are built around the philosophy of challenge recreation, where adult and youth participants build confidence and self-esteem by engaging in what they initially feel is a frightening situation, but with support they discover they can safely push their boundaries and learn lessons that apply to other areas of their lives. Our blind and low vision program participants tell us the sense of freedom they feel while skiing builds their confidence and makes them feel unstoppable.

In 2021, Foresight expanded its programming with the launch of Summer Camps for Blind Youth, designed to serve participants not drawn to winter sports but still seeking challenge, adventure, and personal growth. These summer experiences build confidence, self-esteem, and perseverance while dismantling societal myths about what people with vision loss can achieve. The summer camps also provide enriching socialization opportunities– meeting adult volunteers and, most importantly, other kids just like them, living with vision loss.

Foresight is committed to removing any financial barriers that may keep blind and low vision individuals from participating in programs such as ours. Our ski programs and summer camps are offered at no or low cost to participants, and we do request donations from each participant at a level that is comfortable for them.

Foresight's programs promote physical fitness, confidence, teamwork, and new possibilities for those who are often told they have limitations.
