Turn Up The Volume On Giving: Do Your Part To Keep The Music Playing

Fort Collins Musicians Association supports local musicians year-round through networking, education, and events. Your dollars can help impact our programs and what we are able to offer musicians in our community. FoCoMA's programs and events include:

FoCoMX - A Colorado music festival with 350 local artists on over 35 stages in Downtown Fort Collins every April. The festival showcases the exceptional and diverse talent across the Front Range. We provide equitable pay, access to new audiences, and performance opportunities to over 1,200 diverse musicians. FoCoMA also values musicians and works to provide access to artist care resources with an emphasis on community connection, harm reduction, and substance-free spaces.

Music Industry Nights - A collaborative networking event for musicians and music industry professionals to connect to each other and support resources. Past events have provided participants with farm-to-table dinners, haircuts, holiday activities, jam sessions, and private access to the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery.  We weave livability resources into the fabric of these vibrant networking events.

Peer Awards - The FoCoMA Peer Awards is a 15-year-old celebration that showcases and awards the achievements of the local music community. Awards and performances at the event highlight album releases, new music projects, and lifetime achievement awards.

InTune - Health and Dental Clinics A collaborative partnership with MusiCares that gives musicians, sound engineers, and gig workers access to custom ear molds, as well as dental exams, cleanings, and x-rays. Over $40,000 of dental work has been provided to our music community to date.

Mission

FoCoMA’s mission is to support all Northern Colorado musicians in our community through networking, education, and events because music changes lives.

Background Statement

Fort Collins Musicians Association has served local musicians since 2007. The organization grew from friends who wanted to showcase local music talent and support venues, this idea was truly an experiment hence the name Fort Collins Music Experiment. What started with an ambitious 100 artists and 12 venues blossomed into a fully recognized music festival showcasing over 350 local artists at 35 stages over a two-day weekend each spring.

When the pandemic hit in 2020 FoCoMA pivoted our annual FoCoMX festival and led one of the first paths back to live music nationwide with our Drive and Jive concert series. It was honored as NPR’s Top Live Music Sessions of 2020 and many Colorado musicians were selected to become one of NPR Slingshot artists - read more: https://www.npr.org/2020/08/19/903624897/city-scenes-the-best-of-fort-collinss-drive-in-concerts

Our InTune musician wellness program evolved throughout the pandemic and now serves musicians year-round.

When we connected with our music community throughout the COVID pandemic as many musicians had lost their jobs/careers, all performance opportunities, and felt disconnected from the community. Musicians needed connection to each other and access to basic livability resources. FoCoMA created regular Music Industry Nights in partnership with the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery to offer a safe space, with connections to community aid organizations. We continue to offer quarterly Music Industry Nights to our community to network, connect with resources, and build a stronger music safety net.

Fort Collins Musicians Association expanded it’s work with partners who provide professional development resources like the Music District, The Larimer Small Business Development Center, and nationwide entity MusiCares to offer complimentary dental clinics to music industry workers, business training, and music industry career navigation.
