Background Statement

Firebird Theatre was born in the summer of 2023 out of the passion of a small group of local theatre nerds, all hailing from various backgrounds and experiences. The troupe burst onto the Gunnison Valley theatre scene with a pair of concurrent inaugural productions: an original children’s adaptation of de Villeneuve’s Beauty and the Beast and a 1930s-inspired open-air production of William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. Since then, Firebird has continued producing Shakespeare’s works and children’s shows alongside other mainstage productions and special events. Firebird Theatre, being a newer arts entertainment company, takes great stock in our collaborative relationships with fellow arts organizations and local businesses which have served as partners and host venues for many of our productions since 2023, including:
