Testimonials

"Autumn wants to thank everyone who helps her. She says we take her around the world, and she doesn't even have to leave home."

"Love this program. Thank you for all your help. I am seeing through my ears now and it is wonderful."

"I don't know how to thank you for all the time you give to those of us who are dependent on you. Reading was one of my greatest pleasures (as it was my Mother's before me). You gave her many years of pleasure as you are now giving me. I have to tell you that the new machines are wonderful!!! I'm not sure which I love the most, not having to change tapes or the sleep timer."

"Because of the service you provide and the quality and manner by which you provide it, I have, once again, am "reading" books and other printed works. Your honoring my preferences in terms of specific titles as well as genre of areas of interest has been gratefully appreciated. The promptness of service is no less astounding. Kudos to your paid and volunteer staff. Once again, I cannot thank you enough for the world you have reopened for me. Most gratefully," G.G.

"I have had talking book service from many different libraries as I moved around the country during my adult years. The service I receive from the Colorado Talking Book Library is the best of them all. Thank you so much for what you do."

To support the freedom to read as expressed in the American Library Association Bill of Rights

And related activities as from time to time determined

The support for the Colorado Talking Book Library includes recording and reading services; purchase and repair of recording equipment and computer systems; purchase of descriptive videos, large print and braille books; volunteer services and support; computer software maintenance; Childrens Summer reading program.

Background Statement

The Friends of CTBL began in 1972 to support the Colorado Talking Book Library. CTBL provides a unique service to the print disabled population of Colorado who are generally blind or vision impaired. The service provides free access to Braille, audio and large print books via the mail, postage paid. Books are sent automatically based on patron preferences. The Library of Congress established partnerships with states starting in 1931 and there is a national network of libraries for all US citizens in this state-federal partnership. Since the state only funds 49% of the overall annual budget, The Friends has become a critical support to the library.
