Background Statement

When the National Park Service planned to demolish Sprague's Ranch at Moraine Park in Rocky Mountain National Park, an interested group of local residents saved the historic lodge's artifacts and began to collect objects from other individuals, eventually establishing and incorporating the Estes Park Area Historical Museum in 1962.

The Estes Park Museum Friends & Foundation, Inc. was formally established in 1979 and has varied in its title and organizational structure over the years, always with the purpose to support the Estes Park Museum.

This organization operated the museum until 1992 when the museum became a division of the Town of Estes Park.
