Environment Colorado works for clean air, clean water, clean energy, wildlife and open spaces, and a livable climate. Our members across the state put grassroots support behind our research and advocacy.

Mission

We envision a greener Colorado: one that protects more places where nature can thrive, and offers us and our children a greater opportunity to live healthier, more enriching lives. Through our research, public education, advocacy, litigation and action, we advance policies and practices that put our state and our country on a better path.

Background Statement

Environment Colorado, a member of Environment America’s national network, has been advocating for clean air, clean water, open spaces, and a healthy environment in Colorado since its founding.

Environment Colorado's work has led to important victories for wildlife, conservation, and sustainability across the state. We've helped protect Colorado's most treasured natural areas, advanced clean energy policies to reduce pollution, and worked to limit harmful chemicals that threaten public health. From banning single-use plastic bags to creating protected landscapes like Camp Hale, our grassroots efforts have made a lasting impact.

Recent efforts include working to designate the Dolores River Canyon as a national monument, pushing for the Plastic Pellet Free Waters Act to keep nurdles out of our waterways, and advancing policies to remove toxic pesticides that threaten pollinators, including successfully banning neonicotinoids from retail sale to protect bees and other pollinators. Our research has shed light on environmental issues like air quality and the importance of protecting native plant species.

Our grassroots organizing mobilizes thousands of Coloradans every year. We build community support, organize events, and raise awareness to push for lasting change. In August, our canvassers gathered thousands of signatures to demonstrate support for permanently protecting the Dolores River Canyons. We delivered presentations at Rotary clubs and community centers, ran petition drives at farmers markets, and hosted trivia events at local businesses. Through partnerships with other local and national organizations, as well as collaborations with scientists, experts, and legislators, we create momentum for bold environmental solutions. We've supported the removal of dangerous chemicals from consumer products, protected water quality in local rivers, and successfully advocated for renewable energy standards to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Our youth organizing and leadership programs aim to engage the next generation of environmental leaders, educating young people and empowering them to take action for a greener future. Whether it’s reducing waste, expanding solar energy use, or protecting public lands, Environment Colorado remains committed to ensuring that Colorado is a cleaner, healthier place for generations to come.
