Help a child see their world, and their future more clearly. Together we are turning possibility into Vision!
DID YOU KNOW...
- Cortical Visual Impairment is the #1 cause of permanent visual impairment in children in the U.S. and other developed countries?
Imagine finding out that your child has a visual impairment (Cortical Visual Impairment-also called CVI) and being told that it can improve with intervention. However, if they are over the age of 3 then being told that no one (not insurance or any federal/state funded program) covers the cost of vision services. This means your child won’t continue to be able to get the critical help they need to improve their functional vision outside of school. Your donation ensures children with complex needs don’t fall through the cracks. With every dollar, you're funding specialized vision services, from mobility training to adaptive learning that empower children to engage, explore, and thrive. With the right support, children with visual impairments can gain critical skills, build confidence, and navigate their world with greater independence.
In Colorado, more than 400 children between the ages of 3 and 21, all with Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI) and additional disabilities, aren’t receiving the vision services they need in their home and communities to support the improvement of their functional vision. Parents are also feeling lost and not equipped in understanding their child's vision impairment and what they need to advocate for their child. While some children receive limited support through school, it’s nowhere near enough. Most children get only a fraction of the time they need with a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI), and many go without any meaningful, individualized vision instruction at all. These families aren’t asking for extras, they’re simply asking for their child’s eyes to have the same opportunity to grow as every other part of their body that continues to receive therapy, support, and services. Join us in ensuring that no family faces this journey alone.
We are a new non-profit this year and already have a waiting list of families waiting for support. Please join us in helping to bring hope to these children!
"Vision is not a passive process. Children with Cortical Visual Impairment are active learners, and their environment must be adapted to match their visual needs." -Dr. Amanda Lueck (Professor San Francisco State University, Vision Impairment Specialist)
"These children are not 'blind.' They are seeing with their brains, and its our job to help that brain learn to see. Functional Vision is not measured by the eyes alone. It is measured by experience, access, and the opportunity to build meaning." -Ellen Mazel, M. Ed. (Director of the CVI Center at Perkins School for the Blind)
