From an At-Home Family Child Care Program to a Child Care Center. This evolution would not have been possible without each hand that guided around program along the way. Thank you to the families that are here, and welcome to the families who will join us in the future.

Emmanuel STEM International (ESTEMI) Preschool teaches children from a global perspective with emphasis on STEM and international education. We nurture a love for learning to ensure a child’s academic success and foster protective factors for resilience in life. Health education and equity is embedded in ESTEMI’s programming as young children primarily from the refugee, immigrant and migrant (RIM) communities in the Denver Metro/Aurora area are provided with nutritious meals, connections to physical and dental health services, as well as referrals to early intervention services as needed.

ESTEMI’s innovative early childhood education for children ages 2–6 uses a play-based, hands-on curriculum that builds critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills in a nurturing, inclusive environment.  The introduction of STEM at an early age prepares children for future academic success and equips them to thrive in a rapidly evolving world. ESTEMI preschoolers are nurtured to embrace a love for learning as we incorporate fun games and activities for pre-math and literacy skills that prepare them for kindergarten and beyond.

Mission

Our mission is to empower and nurture deep student engagement, a love for learning, and commitment to academic success for the academically disadvantaged.

Background Statement

Emmanuel STEM International (ESTEMI) Preschool was created with an unambiguous goal to deliver a high quality early childhood education to the minority, people of color, English language learners, and Denver’s refugee, immigrant, and migrant (RIM) populations in a recognized child care desert area. Dr. Lydia V Amewu-Sirleaf, a graduate of University of Denver with a PhD in Educational Leadership, is the Executive Director and Founder. She believes that, “it is imperative to nurture a love for learning in children from an early age to ensure their academic success and positive grit for living life.” Born and raised in Ghana, she was continually disappointed by the shocking differences in learning for children who received a good start in preschool versus those not introduced to the same advantageous start. She opened the ESTEMI Preschool to serve children from low-income families in hopes of mitigating the risk of repeating poverty cycles that their parents and grandparents may have experienced as a result of barriers to quality education and job opportunities.
