Background Statement
Who We Are:
The Egyptian Study Society (ESS) is a Colorado non-profit organization devoted to adult education and the study of ancient Egypt. ESS was formed in 1987 following the exhibit Ramses II: The Great Pharaoh and His Time at the Denver Museum of Natural History by volunteers who worked on that exhibit and wanted to continue learning about ancient Egypt. ESS was affiliated with and met in Ricketson Auditorium at the museum up until January 2019. In January 2019, ESS began meeting at Red Rocks Community College. The Egyptian Study Society brings in world-renowned speakers, as well as local ESS members, to present monthly meetings on all aspects of ancient Egypt and its culture. Our normal monthly meeting time is the 3rd Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m, January - November. Meetings consist of announcements followed by a lecture that lasts for about an hour, followed by a period for Q & A with the speaker.
