The Durango Education Foundation supports the rural Durango School District public schools through four funding streams:
1) Classroom Grants that are impactful and encourage innovation and excellence in our schools ($220,000 in 2025)
2) Scholarships for our graduating seniors (over $117,000 awarded in 2025)
3) Service Events such as our two resource fairs and our teacher appreciation celebration that, together, served approximately 1,000 people in our community
4) Cause Campaigns such as our current $350,000 campaign to transform a district school bus into an exciting mobile learning lab that will deliver cutting edge technology throughout the district during the summer, the school day, and after school. We also completed the $350,000 Bridge the Gap campaign that helped our students gain ground after Covid, as well as the $50,000 Coding and Makerspace Campaign that brought high-quality curriculum and equipment to all Durango School District schools.

Founded by a family as a single memorial scholarship in 1984, the Durango Education Foundation has evolved into an organization that engages all aspects of academic education in the Durango School District. DEF is a proactive partner, seeking out needs and creative possibilities, and finding resources to further encourage excellent opportunities for the district's students.
