Background Statement
The Durango Arts Center (DAC) is under new leadership, now helmed by longtime local non-profit leader Beth Lamberson Warren! Without the financial support of generous donors, we could not offer engaging exhibits (free to the public), inspiring theater performances, and year-round arts educational programs. Nor could we offer scholarships to students who need financial support. Thanks to our Colorado Gives donors, tickets and class registrations are affordable and we are able to offer scholarships that make the arts accessible to everyone in our amazing community.
The Durango Arts Center’s story began in 1966, when the Durango Fine Arts Council was born. A few years later, the Council joined creative forces with the Durango Artists Association, and in 1973, the Durango Arts Center (DAC) officially came to life.
Since then, DAC has blossomed into Durango’s home for creativity — where paintbrushes, play scripts, live music, and fierce imagination all find a stage. We proudly offer visual and performing arts programs for children, teens, and adults, making the arts accessible and inspiring for everyone.
From captivating gallery exhibits and hands-on art classes to unforgettable theater productions, concerts, and community festivals, DAC brings thousands of locals and visitors together every year to celebrate the creative spirit.
Beyond the fun, the arts also mean business! DAC plays a vital role in Durango’s economy and quality of life — supporting local artists, attracting cultural tourism, boosting sales tax revenues, and adding a big splash of color to the Four Corners community.
