Our mission is to search for lost or missing people in the backcountry and the urban areas of Douglas County and to rescue, provide emergency care for or recover those stranded, injured or otherwise incapacitated in the backcountry.
This is all done at no charge to the victim or their families.
Since its inception in 1998, DCSAR has become certified as a Mountain Rescue Association team, serving Douglas County, Greater Denver, and Colorado with distinction, averaging over 165 mission requests per year. Our team is able to operate in-county or anywhere in the State of Colorado. DCSAR is dispatched by the Douglas County Sheriff for calls ranging from missing persons in residential areas to searches and rescues of those lost or injured in the wilderness. DCSAR assists the Sheriff's Office in evidence searches when needed. DCSAR also provides wilderness safety education to children and adults across the county and bleed-control training for county employees. Our team resources include technical rope rescues, ATV and snowmobile searcgh/transport, and K9 and UAV (drone) search capabilities. DCSAR and the Douglas County Sheriff do not charge for search and rescue services.
