Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance

A nonprofit organization

At DZCA, we proudly hold ourselves to the highest standards of veterinary care, because our animals deserve nothing but the best. However, our dedication to excellence comes at a high price. Medicine and hospital equipment costs over $ 367,000 per year. Just like humans, animals require routine preventative care as well as diagnosis and treatment of disease. Your financial support allows us to continue to do all that and more for our beloved residents.

Background Statement

Founded in 1896, Denver Zoo Consveration Alliance (DZCA) was part of the City of Denver Parks & Recreation Department until July 1956 when the city and DZCA established a public/private partnership giving operation, management, and fundraising responsibilities to the non-profit Foundation that is governed by an elected board of trustees.

DZCA reaches approximately 2 million people through on-grounds attendance and outreach programs. In addition, we have over 65,000 member households.

DZCA was awarded The Association of Zoos and Aquariums' inaugural Green Award, ranking the zoo as the greenest zoo in the country for its outstanding sustainability practices. The zoo was recognized for leading efforts in sustainability through its Sustainable Management System, which provides an institutional-wide framework to identify, implement, measure, report, and improve operations to reduce the zoo's environmental impact.
