Background Statement
The forerunner of the Denver Kickers was a men's soccer team named Germania, which came into being in the fall of 1956 as the second team of the Denver Turnverein (also known as the German Haus). What began as a team eventually became a club, and on October 15, 1962, the Denver Kickers Sport Club was incorporated in the State of Colorado as a nonprofit organization.
The new club formed immediately a Denver Kickers Bavarian dancing group called the Schuhplattlers and started holding dances at the Turnverein. Schuhplattler practice and soccer meetings were held each Friday evening and every Sunday after the games.
In 1968, the Denver Kickers acquired their first clubhouse, which was an old two story red brick schoolhouse on 1 3/4 acres in Golden, Colorado. In 1976, a parcel of land was acquired from the Adolph Coors Brewing Company, where a new clubhouse was designed and built by members.
Today, the Denver Kickers Clubhouses is located on 8 acres of land, has a European-size championship soccer field, over 400 members, and sponsors three Men's Adult Soccer teams in the Kickers Soccer League, one Women's Adult Soccer team in the Metro Denver Women's Soccer Club, 23 Competitive Youth Soccer teams in the Colorado Soccer Association Centennial League, and 10 Recreational Youth Soccer teams in the Colorado Soccer Association Front Range League.
The Denver Kickers also offers the Kickers Kids program, which includes Family Skills Soccer for boys and girls ages 4-6, and Micro Soccer for boys and girls ages 6-8.
Additionally, the Club hosts several dances and activities yearly, including a Maypole Dance, a Bavarian Style Oktoberfest, and a Christkindl Market.
