Additionally, my prescriptions were nearly $800 a month. In no time, I exhausted my HSA and emergency savings. I felt overwhelmed and in need of a lifeline, but I was reluctant to ask for the help. The Foundation was extremely helpful, providing funds to get me to a place where I could pay for my medical bills and prescriptions without being overextended financially. This year, contributions from generous donors allowed the Blue Hat Foundation to provide financial support to 20 employees during their time of need and to launch our wellness initiatives by providing heart screens for 200.
The Denver Police Blue Hat Foundation's mission is to support our Denver Police family through financial, health, and wellbeing programs.
The Denver Police Blue Hat Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is in good standing with the State of Colorado and the IRS. The Foundation was established in 1999 as the Denver Police Officers Foundation. We officially changed our name on May 1, 2024, to improve name recognition and increase awareness of the important work that the Foundation does.
Our tagline "Passing the hat in support of our Denver Police family since 1999" reflects the long-held tradition of collecting money for someone in need and resonates with the men and women of the police department.
The Blue Hat Foundation is funded primarily by monthly payroll deductions from Denver Police officers and professional staff members supported by donations from community members, business leaders, and fundraising.
