Since 2001, the Mile High Community Band operates under the 1995 reestablished Denver Junior Police Band organization as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit business entity. Our members pay dues to support our financial needs and we solicit donations. Our most generous and loyal support has come from the Jefferson County SCFD. Currently we have four bands: Fundamentals, Jazz Combo, Jazz Band, and Concert Band. We schedule weekly rehearsals at North High School and usually 4-5 concerts per year principally in Jefferson County. We hope to increase this number. As with most performing groups, our membership and financial savings dropped considerably during the COVID pandemic.

Mission

Our mission is to bring high quality concert and jazz music and music education to a diverse population in the Denver metropolitan area, including performance experience and music education for band members.

Background Statement

The original Denver Jr. Police Band began in 1937 and dissolved in 1987. It was reestablished in Denver by Mayor Wellington Webb in 1995. In 2001, the Denver Police Department chose to no longer support the Band, necessitating a name change and self-reliant stewardship. The original band, all boys from ages 8 - 16, included five bands, in progressive stages of player development. The Mile High Community Band, due to lack of childrens' time and interest today, is unable to offer beginning band, and consequently, our membership now is comprised of mostly adults, but we do not exclude young members if they can play an instrument
