Mission

The Veterans Monument Foundation will actively promote the creation, construction and maintenance of a Douglas County Veterans Monument.

The monument foundation will serve these purposes:

A. A monument to those military veterans past, present and future

B. A place for individuals and families to gather to honor and remember our veterans

C. A place for public gatherings to remember and honor our veterans both living and dead

D. A place where children, youth and others can learn about veterans

E. Be a philanthropic organization to the veterans of Douglas County

Background Statement

In the summer of 2007, Mr. Henry Bohne (a Veteran of the Korean conflict) and Mr. Lou Zoghby (a recipient of the Bronze Star for his efforts at the Battle of the Bulge during WWII) envisioned a place where Douglas County Veterans from all services and wars would be honored in tribute to their sacrifices for our liberty.

In early 2011, Mr. Bill Hugue's rendition of Freedom's Keeper, a 14' bronze statue of an eagle clutching an American flag as it is draped over the globe, was chosen as a model for the monument. During the next few years the Douglas County Veterans Monument Foundation raised over $180,000.00 from patriotic citizens from around the County, culminating with the installation of Freedoms Keeper on the front lawn of the County Building at the corner of 4th and Wilcox streets, in downtown Castle Rock, CO, August 3rd, 2013.
