Testimonials

The Creede Early Learning Center has been an incredible resource to my family and community. I have two children, ages 4 and 6, who attend the CELC every week. Their Preschool Program has helped my son in his preparation for Kindergarten by providing him with exposure to various educational activities. These included working with the alphabet, new concepts, communication and organization. The daily activities of the CELC are centered around a different theme each week and my children have really enjoyed learning about wind, plants and bugs this spring.
Our family especially appreciates the teachers who model kindness and patience, and meet the individual needs of each child. I love how much active playtime my children participate in while at the center. They come home with plenty of fun stories about splashing in puddles, playing outside, creative activities, playtime with their friends and trying new foods. The CELC does a fantastic job creating a playful, educational and safe place to send my children and I am grateful for this valuable community resource. -- Amanda Gibbons

Mission

The mission of the Creede Early Learning Center is to provide safe, dependable, affordable, and nurturing child care in a high quality early childhood environment for the children of Creede and surrounding communities.

Background Statement

The Creede Early Learning Center was established in 1997 by a group of concerned citizens. Originally managed by the city, it soon became a nonprofit organization--Creede Critter Care! Like the economy of the mining driven economy of Creede, the enrollment financial stability of the Early Learning Center was very much up and down. After years of scrambling for financial support the Center closed briefly about 6 years ago. The lack of affordable child care was devastating to the community and so with the tireless work of an enthusiastic board the Center reopened with three children, three days a week.

The Center now has 26 children enrolled and many days is working at licensed capacity of 15. In addition to tuition and grants CELC has contracted with the local school district to provide a preschool for the community. The additional revenue from the state through the Colorado Preschool Program has moved the Center toward more financial stability.
