Message from Us

At CDA, we believe deeply in the transformative power of recreation. Everyday, we work to create inclusive outdoor experiences that empower individuals of all abilities to discover the joy, confidence, and freedom that come with adventure.

Programs

Our programs span a wide range of activities, including adaptive skiing and snowboarding, summer adventures, adaptive cycling, adaptive camping, sled hockey, and so much more. No matter a person’s interests or needs, there truly is something for everyone. Every activity can be customized and adapted to ensure that individuals with any type of disability can participate fully, safely, and with a sense of belonging. Click on "programs" way down below on the left to see more detailed descriptions of what we have to offer.

CDA Operations

Running CDA requires substantial resources. From essential overhead costs to purchasing new equipment and maintaining existing gear, every aspect of our work depends on reliable funding. Program operations also come with ongoing expenses, and we prioritize comprehensive training for our staff and volunteers so each activity can be delivered—and adapted—with the highest level of safety and care.

Giving

There are many ways to give! You can make a one-time donation online. If you give a monthly donation online, your first month will be matched through the Colorado Gives program. If you prefer to mail a check, please make it out to Colorado Discover Ability and send it to: CDA; 601 Struthers Ave; Grand Junction, CO 81501.

Thank you for your support!

Mission

The mission of Colorado Discover Ability is to increase the independence, self-confidence, self-worth, and education of people with disabilities through outdoor recreation.

Background Statement

Our History

Founded in 1980, the "Powderhorn Handicapped Ski-Program" was created to provide educational and therapeutic alpine skiing opportunities for individuals with disabilities in western Colorado. As the program grew, it became clear that the need for adaptive recreation extended far beyond skiing. In 1987, the organization officially became Colorado Discover Ability (CDA) and expanded to include summer programs for children and young adults. Over the decades, CDA has continued to evolve, serving individuals of all ages with a wide range of disabilities, including veterans. CDA is also proud to sponsor Team Powderhorn--the largest Special Olympics ski race-team in the western region.

We are very excited to celebrate our 45th year of providing our programs to people of all abilities!
