Background Statement
The original mission of the Foundation was to assist in continuing the higher education of dependent children and widows of Colorado State Troopers killed in the line of duty. The Foundation maintains the Fallen Officer Fund but has expanded its role by providing additional financial assistance and wellness programs for members of the Colorado State Patrol and their families.
To uphold the tradition of honoring fallen officers, the Foundation donates funds to the family of any law enforcement officer who is killed in the line of duty in the State of Colorado, as well as the family of any State Trooper who is killed in the line of duty in the United States.
The Hardship Fund was created to assist CSP members who find themselves in a financial situation beyond their control and are in need of assistance. These funds are used to assist with situations ranging from medical expenses to unplanned expenses beyond one's control.
Furthermore, the Foundation established four annual scholarship funds to assist continuing education as a benefit for Colorado State Troopers who are members of the Colorado State Patrol Association (CSPA), their dependents, and their spouses. The scholarship funds are available to students who are pursuing an undergraduate, masters, or technical degree.
In keeping with the mission of the Colorado State Patrol, the Foundation expanded its scope of service to include a variety of defensive driving programs available to the general public. Offered statewide, Alive at 25 is a nationally recognized, award winning defensive driving program for young drivers ages 15-24. The Foundation offers five other defensive driving courses, in addition to Alive at 25.
Lastly, the Foundation is working tirelessly to provide emotional support and resources to Colorado State Troopers and their families. We recognize that the law enforcement profession is difficult right now, for officers and their families alike. With that in mind, the Foundation is beginning to host seminars led by experts in member well-being, cumulative trauma, financial planning, spousal/family support, etc. In June of 2022, the Foundation underwrote the costs for sworn and non-sworn CSP members to receive cutting edge mental health therapies for which recipients have described as "life changing".
