Testimonials

It's never easy having to ask for money to help support your family. It can be even more stressful than the actual situation that you are in. Yet the Foundation makes the process stress-free. Knowing that your request will remain anonymous and you will not be judged or ridiculed by your peers further eases the stress of having to ask for assistance.

The Foundation has helped my family twice in the past 15 years, and not once was I made to feel ashamed or embarrassed. We were treated with respect and compassion during these times, and for this I am even more grateful. We were provided financial assistance to provide our family with much needed medication, groceries, and help with making our mortgage payment when we had unexpected emergencies arise.

Words will never be able to fully describe our gratitude, as without the assistance that we received from the Foundation, our family would not have made it through those trying times.

Mission

The mission of the Colorado State Patrol Family Foundation is to support public safety employees, their families, and organizations by providing support and resources. Through the efforts of committed leadership, partnerships and staff, we work to ease the times of unexpected hardship, supporting seriously injured or fallen officers and their families, furthering their higher education, engaging and developing new programs to support and recognize these employees' commitment to public safety, and by providing the general public with information, education, technology and other means necessary to promote a safer transportation system within which we all operate.

Background Statement

The original mission of the Foundation was to assist in continuing the higher education of dependent children and widows of Colorado State Troopers killed in the line of duty. The Foundation maintains the Fallen Officer Fund but has expanded its role by providing additional financial assistance and wellness programs for members of the Colorado State Patrol and their families.

To uphold the tradition of honoring fallen officers, the Foundation donates funds to the family of any law enforcement officer who is killed in the line of duty in the State of Colorado, as well as the family of any State Trooper who is killed in the line of duty in the United States.

The Hardship Fund was created to assist CSP members who find themselves in a financial situation beyond their control and are in need of assistance. These funds are used to assist with situations ranging from medical expenses to unplanned expenses beyond one's control.

Furthermore, the Foundation established four annual scholarship funds to assist continuing education as a benefit for Colorado State Troopers who are members of the Colorado State Patrol Association (CSPA), their dependents, and their spouses. The scholarship funds are available to students who are pursuing an undergraduate, masters, or technical degree.

In keeping with the mission of the Colorado State Patrol, the Foundation expanded its scope of service to include a variety of defensive driving programs available to the general public. Offered statewide, Alive at 25 is a nationally recognized, award winning defensive driving program for young drivers ages 15-24. The Foundation offers five other defensive driving courses, in addition to Alive at 25.

Lastly, the Foundation is working tirelessly to provide emotional support and resources to Colorado State Troopers and their families. We recognize that the law enforcement profession is difficult right now, for officers and their families alike. With that in mind, the Foundation is beginning to host seminars led by experts in member well-being, cumulative trauma, financial planning, spousal/family support, etc. In June of 2022, the Foundation underwrote the costs for sworn and non-sworn CSP members to receive cutting edge mental health therapies for which recipients have described as "life changing".
