Colorado Lawyers Committee

A nonprofit organization

Support for the Colorado Lawyers Committee enables the organization and its volunteers to continue expanding our efforts in creating and increasing opportunities for children and other disadvantaged communities through pro bono advocacy, negotiation, and litigation.

How your gift furthers our mission:

  • $100 donation:  Covers the cost of an interpreter at one of CLC’s free legal clinics, ensuring volunteer attorneys can assist multi-lingual clients
  • $500 donation: Provides breakfast for volunteers at the Nonpartisan Election Call Center to answer calls from voters on Election Day
  • $1,000 donation:  Funds a Young Lawyers Division grant to defray costs in pro bono representation, fund materials or space for clinics or other direct services, or provide scholarships for trainings that assist newer lawyers in providing pro bono services.
  • $2,500 donation:  Helps offset the cost of retaining expert witnesses in the landmark Taylor Ranch case involving the rights of farmers and ranchers in the San Luis Valley to graze animals and collect firewood and timber

Mission

Founded in 1978, the Colorado Lawyers Committee is a nonpartisan consortium of almost 80 Colorado law firms dedicated to creating and increasing opportunities for children, the poor and other disadvantaged communities through pro bono advocacy, negotiation, and litigation. The lawyers who donate their time through the Lawyers Committee focus primarily on major public policy issues and systemic changes rather than representation of individuals.

Background Statement

The Colorado Lawyers Committee has more than 30 active projects in the areas of Poverty & Public Benefits, Civil Rights & Criminal Law, Children's Rights & Education, Community Development, and Immigration. Last year, 1,340 volunteers contributed 12,480 hours to Colorado Lawyers Committee projects and task forces. We work closely with the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and its affiliates in seven other cities throughout the country.
