Colorado HorsePower, Inc. is one of the most established therapeutic riding centers in Colorado. Through the power of horses and horsemanship, we have served hundreds of individuals who are facing major life challenges or simply wish to improve their quality of life.

"Colorado Horsepower is an opportunity for which I am most grateful. I started riding in the Veterans Program with the intent to better myself and recover from personal life problems. Since I've been given the opportunity to ride in the program, Colorado HorsePower has given me the confidence I was lacking and the appreciation of horsemanship. Colorado HorsePower has given me a lifelong skill that I will use for years to come." -- Active Duty Air Force Sergeant, 12 years including Afghanistan Deployment

"It is with great pleasure that I write this testimonial and a letter of support for Colorado Horsepower. My daughter Michelle has been with Colorado Horsepower for a few years.  She has a mental disability and is developmentally delayed. She is a very outgoing person but struggles with balance, coordination, decision-making, and attention span.  She has been under the instruction of Dr. Leigh Anderson and Mark Renn who are certainly one of the best teachers in their field and have incredible aptitude working with kids and adults with special needs. Michelle has definitely become an accomplished rider over the years. Her coordination and physical stamina has very much improved. Through her riding, Michelle has become more, self-reliant, and confident and has more self-esteem. I could not be more happy with how Michelle has become a self-assured, positive young lady through Colorado Horsepower. We are blessed and deeply indebted to this program here in Colorado. In all sincerity, if you are looking for a place to make a donation that will directly go to a program that changes people's lives, look no further than Colorado Horsepower."

"Our son Christopher has been a rider at Colorado HorsePower for 10 years. He has Fragile X Syndrome, which is the only form of genetic intellectual disability. He also struggles with ADHD, severe anxiety, autism-like symptoms and is nonverbal. So what does horseback riding do for him? A lot! Horseback riding promotes increased mobility, strength, coordination, balance, postural control, communication, and cognition. Horseback riding for Christopher is one of the few activities he loves. He has fun! He has independence. His body and his mind are engaged. He has been known to start getting dressed for horseback riding in the middle of the week! HorsePower not only helps our son but the entire family. As parents we get to sit and be outside in a beautiful part of Colorado and have an hour of watching our child enjoy an activity he loves." -- Parents of a Long-time Student

Colorado HorsePower's mission is to build physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional wellbeing through the healing power and strength of horses. Founded in 1984, we have provided equine therapy and horsemanship skills to help individuals facing emotional, mental, and physical challenges in the Denver Metro and Douglas County communities.

Background Statement

HorsePower began in 1984, by Joseph Howard a local Castle Rock Civitan member, for elementary school children in the Castle Rock schools. Throughout the years, HorsePower has continued to provide therapeutic equestrian program to children, and has also expanded to serve the needs of adults with a focus on veterans and first responders.

HorsePower is possible through the generous support of our community, and partners with several local organizations, such as the Castle Rock Civitan Club, the Castle Rock Kiwanis, the Castle Rock Rotary, local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts Troops, the Air Force Academy Cadets, the Douglas Country Volunteer Coalition, and many more.

HorsePower is also a Center Member with the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship, International (PATH, Intl.) and employs certified therapeutic riding instructor(s) through the PATH, Intl. organization. In the early fall of 2015, HorsePower became a Provider Approved Service Agency (PASA).

HorsePower works to offer quality therapeutic equestrian programming for individuals within Douglas County and the Denver/Colorado Spring metropolitan areas.

We are located at MeadowBrook Farm off Garton Road. The team at MeadowBrook Farm provides day-to-day care and feeding for our herd of horses. Our spacious facility supports outdoor and indoor classes and additional access for area trail rides.

Our goal is to serve as many students as possible while controlling tuition fees and operating costs. As a result, only our part-time trainers are compensated for their time. The rest of our operations are supported by wonderful volunteers, a generous community of donors and sponsors, and our volunteer board.
