Coal Creek Canyon Improvement Association

A nonprofit organization

Coal Creek Canyon is an unicorporated community located in the foothills, between Mount Thorodin to the west, along  SH72, to Plainview on the east.  The Coal Creek Canyon Improvement Association (CCCIA) was established in 1948 in response to canyon resident concerns about wildfires. It's first mission was to establish a volunteer fire department to help protect the community.  Next, it worked with the Rural Electric Association to begin to bring electric service to the canyon.  Between 1949 and 1951, community members raised enough money to fund the new volunteer fire department and to build a community house on 3 acres of land donated by a generous canyon resident.  That community house is now called the CCCIA Hall and it continues to be the central location for community events ranging from pancake breakfasts to raise funds for school childrens' scholarships to community celebrations to forums for civic engagements that support the residents who live in the 3 different counties that have jurisdiction over Coal Creek Canyon.  The all volunteer CCCIA Board of Directors work tirelessly throughout the year to ensure that the hall is used to host a variety of community building events meant to support and engage the members of our community.

Background Statement

The Coal Creek Canyon Improvement Association (CCCIA) has long served the community in a variety of ways. In earlier times the Association’s mission was to help bring utility services to the Canyon, to lobby for paving Highway 72, and to help establish the Volunteer Fire Department.

Today, the CCCIA strives to find new ways to serve the community. Supporting local kids’ groups, providing scholarships, and contributing to emergency community needs is our continued mission.

As stewards of the Coal Creek Canyon Community Center, we also are responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the Center, which is used regularly by many local organizations.
