CoPIRG Foundation spotlights the problems that affect consumers’ health, safety and well-being, advances practical solutions and promotes dialogue about how to elevate the quality of our lives over the quantity of “stuff” we consume.

Mission

CoPIRG Foundation conducts research, policy analysis and public education to advance solutions to problems that affect consumers’ health, safety and well-being.

All Americans benefit from a marketplace that’s more honest and transparent, and a society that’s healthier, safer and more sustainable. Whether it’s highlighting the overuse of antibiotics in agriculture, offering solutions to our country’s plastic waste crisis, or educating the public on ways we can reduce electronic waste, CoPIRG Foundation’s work is neither progressive nor conservative. Our research and public education highlight problems that our country shouldn’t tolerate in an age of great abundance and technological progress. And our policy analysts point to practical solutions to these problems.

Even in deeply divided moments, all Americans want a healthier, safer, more secure future for themselves and their children. CoPIRG Foundation spotlights the problems that threaten that future and offers solutions that are both practical and transcend political divisions.

Background Statement

Working with a network of other PIRGs across the country, CoPIRG Foundation has been a voice for the public interest in Colorado since 1983.

CoPIRG Foundation's ground-breaking research has led to increased support for transit, walking, and biking; resulted in dozens of recalls for dangerous toys and toxic products; brought about investments in cleaner options for consumers such as e-bikes and electric lawn equipment; and developed policy solutions for problems in our energy, health care and democratic systems.

Recent research reports include the 9th annual State of Recycling and Composting report and the 40th annual Trouble in Toyland report.

Our grassroots organizing includes building support for major expansions in transit, walking and biking funding including shifting over $100 million to regional transit instead of wasteful highway widening projects that fail to solve congestion and exacerbate pollution. We've helped convince the Air Quality Control Commission to adopt electric car and truck standards and convinced the Colorado Department of Transportation to expand our statewide bus system, Bustang, reaching more places with more routes.

Every year, CoPIRG Foundation mobilizes Coloradans to take action so we can do things like watchdog utilities to ensure that our energy is safe, clean and affordable; help people fix their stuff at local repair clinics to save money and reduce waste; and educate people about energy efficient heat pumps and new plug-in solar technology at events statewide.
