Background Statement
Conceptualized by a group of community members, educators, and business leaders, the
Children's Museum of Northern Colorado (CMNC) became a non-profit 501(c)3 organization in
2017. We strive to be the only dedicated children's museum serving the Northern Colorado
region.
We have spent the last several years building a regionally represented board of directors,
gaining community support, and finding a centrally located site for our campus. Through the
generous support from the McWhinney Corporation, a site located within a planned mixed use
urban development near the I-25/Hwy 34 interchange has been selected as the perfect
location for the CMNC.
We recognize the importance of doing our due diligence and conducted two feasibility studies:
a market feasibility study as well as a philanthropic feasibility study. Both studies provided us
with valuable data that our region in Northern Colorado can successfully support a Children's
Museum.
In 2021, the board established the goal of being campaign ready, and identified a three-prong
approach to arrive at that point. Staff has been hired, work teams and committees were
established, including a campaign steering committee composed of board members and
community advocates.
In 2022 we completed a revised architectual study to right size our campaign goals.
