Children's Literacy Center

A nonprofit organization

CLC strives to improve the reading skills of an increasing number of children in need of reading assistance across Colorado. Children must master basic reading skills otherwise, they will not keep pace with their school curriculum.

"Being able to help a young person learn a life-long skill is so amazing! It is a lot of fun and a great organization!" ~Parker - Tutor, Potter's House of Denver~

"I feel like I am able to make a valuable contribution as a tutor/mentor. Mentors have been so important to my professional development, so I am glad to participate in a program that allows me to do the same for a young member of my community." ~Keegan - Tutor, Potter's House of Denver~

"My son's reading has improved since he has started tutoring with Children's Literacy Center. He is beginning to gain more interest in reading. He especially likes reading comic books." ~Erica - Parent, Harvest Church~

Building a life of success through a foundation of literacy…ONE child at a time

Background Statement

Children's Literacy Center (CLC) began as a Junior League project in 1991 and has since evolved into a statewide effort to build a life of success for children through a foundation of literacy. We provide one-to-one tutoring and curriculum materials for disadvantaged youth and their families. Additionally, we recruit and train nearly 500 volunteers each year. Beginning with one location and sixty-two children in 1993, volunteers continue to tutor using the Peak Reader curriculum at more than 13 community sites in Colorado.
