Children's Farms of America dba Children’s Farms in Action (CFA) is a 501c3 organization that inspires curiosity and passion for sustainable agriculture through education, production, and distribution of fresh, healthy, and culturally relevant foods within ECE-12 schools.
CFA's programs include school-based education programs, out-of-school-time programming, summer camps, internships for youth of color ages 14 - 18, a youth-led farmer's market, and a seasonal in-ground agricultural program that provides thousands of pounds to the community's sustainable food access system.
Our programs collaborate with schools, churches, other nonprofits, and residents. We teach nutrition education and social justice via sustainable agriculture curricula, provide a safe space for exploration, work with community partners to create and maintain a sustainable food access system, support youth entrepreneurial projects, and offer charitable fresh food resources to two food pantries in the community.
Children's Farms in Action's mission is to help neighborhoods establish unique farms where their children learn about and grow food for themselves and their community.
Our Goals:
1). Implement diverse models of children’s farms in food desert communities, each inclusive and culturally relevant to all residents within each community.
2). Provide educational programs for the agricultural, environmental, and nutrition sectors across the age spectrum.
3). Engage children and youth in their community.
4). Establish a network of children’s farms throughout Denver and Colorado.
Children's Farms of America dba Children's Farm in Action is dedicated to helping communities establish urban farms for city kids. This nonprofit was formed to assist food desert communities in setting up small-scale urban farms to engage youth in growing food for their communities. Working with neighborhood schools, CFA has helped establish a network of school learning and production gardens that serve hundreds of low-income families. CFA provides technical assistance to residents and school staff on growing food in urban settings and teaches them about healthy eating through nutrition education classes.
