Most shelters give Wolfdogs hours to live. Your gift builds Colorado’s first true path to safety and home.

In Colorado, Huskies are surrendered in heartbreaking numbers every month. For Wolfdogs, the reality is even more severe: in most shelters, they are euthanized immediately — not for aggression, but because there is no legal, safe, or appropriately trained rescue able to take them in.

Colorado has sanctuaries.
Colorado has education centers.
But until now, Colorado has never had a PACFA-licensed, fully foster-based Wolfdog rescue designed to prepare companion-bred Wolfdogs for real homes.

Cavalli’s Husky & Wolfdog Rescue exists to finally fill that gap — and this Colorado Gives campaign is the first step in building the infrastructure required to launch 2026 rescue operations safely and legally.

Your donation directly funds essential startup needs:

  • Completion of our first wolfdog enclosure

  • A PACFA-required generator for safety

  • A large freezer for raw feeding and medical diets

  • A security system to protect the enclosure and animals

  • Intake vetting, vaccines, and critical medical care for our first Wolfdog rescue

These are the required pieces we must have in place before we can begin taking in animals — and every gift moves us closer to being able to say yes to the dogs who currently have nowhere else to go.

When you give, you provide:

  • Safe, secure enclosures that mean the difference between life and death

  • Home-based foster care instead of lifelong confinement

  • Emergency veterinary care before it’s too late

  • Education that ends cycles of stigma, fear, and surrender

Every minute without support is another minute closer to losing them.

Your gift today builds the foundation that will save Colorado’s most at-risk dogs in 2026.

Mission

Mission

Our mission is to protect, advocate for, and provide safe, loving second-chance homes to Huskies and Wolfdogs through a foster-based model that prioritizes individualized care, enrichment, and responsible placement.

We are a breed-specific rescue committed to preparing each animal — and their people — for lifelong success through personalized support, rigorous vetting, and community education, with a strong emphasis on proper wolfdog understanding, ownership, and advocacy.

How We Carry Out Our Mission

• PACFA-Licensed, 501(c)(3) Foster-Based Rescue

We focus on rescue, rehabilitation, and responsible rehoming — never breeding or selling. Each animal receives the time, care, and stability needed to truly heal before entering a forever home.

• Safe, Secure Foster Environments

All fosters meet strict containment and safety standards appropriate for high-energy, high-intelligence breeds. Dogs live in real homes with enrichment, structure, and social interaction. No dog is ever kept in long-term kennels or on chains.

• Individualized Behavioral Rehabilitation

Every Husky and Wolfdog is treated as an individual with unique needs and history. Our foster network provides positive-reinforcement training, confidence building, and trauma-aware care at the dog’s pace to prepare them for safe, successful adoption.

• Comprehensive Public Education

Through outreach, digital resources, and adopter support, we provide honest education about the needs and realities of caring for Huskies and Wolfdogs — reducing fear, preventing surrenders, and supporting sustainable placements.

• Lifelong Commitment to Every Dog

Adoptions are carefully matched, and we remain a permanent safety net for every animal placed. If an adoption fails, the dog always returns to us — never to a shelter.

• Collaborative, Ethical Partnerships

We work closely with shelters, veterinarians, trainers, and other rescues to save at-risk dogs and ensure the highest standard of care from intake through adoption.

Background Statement

Cavalli’s Husky & Wolfdog Rescue was founded in 2024 out of an urgent need for ethical, breed-specific rescue options for some of Colorado’s most misunderstood dogs. While Huskies are frequently surrendered due to their high energy and specialized needs, Wolfdogs face an even harsher reality: in most shelters, they are euthanized immediately because there is no legal, trained rescue able to take them in.

Colorado has sanctuaries and educational programs, but these facilities are not designed for companion-bred Wolfdogs who need home environments, individualized care, behavioral support, and eventual adoption.

Before Cavalli’s, Colorado had no PACFA-licensed, foster-based Wolfdog rescue capable of providing this path.

Our founder, Leah Collingwood, has spent over two decades living with northern breeds and many years working in rescue across the U.S. — fostering, transporting, and caring for high-needs dogs. After moving to Colorado and witnessing firsthand the absence of a legitimate placement pathway for Wolfdogs, Leah committed to building one from the ground up based on safety, sustainability, and compassion.

Cavalli’s is now the first 501(c)(3), PACFA-licensed Wolfdog rescue in the state dedicated to preparing these dogs for real homes, not lifelong confinement. We focus on secure, breed-appropriate containment; individualized medical and behavioral care; and the education needed to help owners succeed.

Our vision is simple but ambitious:

to create a safe, sustainable rescue model that gives Huskies and Wolfdogs a future — not just survival — and ensures that every dog in our care has the opportunity to thrive and find a true forever home.

With your support, we can transform “no safe place” into a growing network of second chances across Colorado.
