Background Statement
Relatively speaking, the Capuchin Province of St. Conrad is young, established just 34 years ago. Its genesis is founded in the division of the Province of St. Augustine which stretched from the east coast to the Kansas-Colorado border. With a 1,500-mile reach, the sprawling province was simply not manageable. A decision was made to divide the geographic arena into two jurisdictions.
Membership of the Province is composed of 53 professed friars. The organization's leadership, elected from the membership, is composed of a Provincial Minister and four councilors who comprise the Provincial Council. The Provincial Minister oversees the fraternal and day-to-day administration of the province.
The Capuchin Province of Mid-America is part of the worldwide order of Capuchin Franciscans with a membership of over 10,000.
