Engaging with community by producing Civics & Action, a non-partisan voter information  program featuring public forums and radio interviews with candidates and experts on political issues.

Testimonials

Ninety percent of the media is owned by just six corporations, so a grassroots community radio station is an ideal way to empower the people who are most often overlooked or misrepresented by mainstream media. Building and operating a radio station is difficult enough for paid professionals, so building a true grassroots radio station with no paid staff is an impressive accomplishment and a testament to the value of independent radio that elevates the voices of marginalized people and issues. The station offers a true opportunity for empowerment and community change and is well worth our community's volunteer and financial investment.

Mission

KWSI 100.3 Radio broadcasts progressive talk & music to balance biased media, inspire social & environmental responsibility, and empower the next generation of problem solvers.

KWSI 100.3 Radio is a project of CRAVE (Community Resources for Action, Volunteerism & Education), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

Background Statement

On March 1, 2023, KWSI 100.3 Progressive Radio celebrated 6 years of service to Grand Junction and Mesa County, Colorado. The idea for building a radio station began in 2013 when an opportunity arose for a team of progressive activists to build a low-powered (LPFM) nonprofit radio station in Grand Junction, Colorado. Created and operated entirely by volunteers, KWSI 100.3 Progressive Radio debuted in 2017.

In the 6 years that KWSI 100.3 Progressive Radio has been on-air, volunteers have produced several local shows, covering mental health, community matters, history, voter services, social justice, and local music. Dozens of local nonprofits and community leaders have shared their resources and news on KWSI's airwaves. Youth voices have been a station priority, so local students have produced their own shows and interviewed community leaders and experts on a a broad array of subjects. As an affiliate of Pacifica Network, the station also broadcasts popular syndicated shows, including Amy Goodman's Democracy Now!, CODEPINK, and Thom Hartmann Program.

KWSI 100.3 Progressive Radio relies on the financial support of individuals and businesses to fund programs and to provide production studios for local volunteers to produce their own shows.
