Testimonials

"CMRETAC is an excellent resource for improving systems of care in the central mountains region. In the past few years, CMRETAC has implemented programs to increase seatbelt use, decrease death from sudden cardiac arrest, improve access to healthcare, reduce trauma related injuries and deaths, and increase critical care education in rural EMS areas. The central mountains area of Colorado is a playground for all types of sports from skiing to whitewater rafting to mountain biking. The CMRETAC has played an integral part in keeping our communities and visitors safe as they enjoy the amazing recreation that our areas provide.
I am proud to be a part of a progressive group of EMS and hospital partners working together to provide excellent care, education and safety to our communities."

Background Statement

The Central Mountains Regional Emergency Medical and Trauma Services Advisory Council, (RETAC) was established by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment in 2000. Colorado has 11 councils authorized by statute to provide a coordinated approach to emergency medical and trauma care. The Central Mountains RETAC consists of six counties Chaffee, Eagle, Park, Pitkin, and Summit. Each county designates three members to the board. The board is then responsible for creating a regionalized approach to improve emergency and trauma services in the region.

In 2010 the Central Mountains RETAC established a regionalized Injury Prevention Program with a focus on Teen Seatbelt use and helmet safety. In 2017, the Central Mountains RETAC created a Sudden Cardiac Arrest Program. Since 2011 the Central Mountains RETAC has been collecting data on seat belt usage in the region. In 2017 we started collecting data points on ski helmet usage and established data collection and evaluation of sudden cardiac arrest in the region. These programs would not be possible without collaboration from stakeholders in the organization.
