Testimonials

I've been a volunteer with CLAWS for the past 3 years and have really enjoyed the ability to make a difference in the lives of animals.
I've been involved with the foster program and found it really satisfying to help care for these cats as they wait for their forever homes.
On a personal level I've learned an amazing amount about cat behavior and medical issues. I've also learned about animal shelters and how they operate, grant writing, event planning and colobaration between animal welfare groups in our area.
I really support and believe in the CLAWS and appreciate the level of care and compassion I see at all levels in the organization.

Background Statement

CLAWS (Cats League and Assistance of the Western Slope) started over 17 years ago n an effort to address the un-met needs of cats in the Mesa County area.

CLAWS is a guaranteed adoption, shelter in which every treatable cat will receive all the care they need and can call CLAWS home for the rest of their lives...... or until they find their perfect family through adoption.

CLAWS is a sanctuary shelter, which means we do not euthanize for space or because a cat has been with us for an extended amount of time. We do not discriminate based on age, circumstance, or medical history.

As such, we almost always have a waiting list for cats to enter our facility. We balance owner surrender intake with intake from partner shelters and shelters in crisis.

CLAWS is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization which means we are entirely dependent upon donations, grants, and events to run the shelter. All donations are tax-deductible.

CLAWS is staffed by dedicated volunteers who work hard every day, 365 days a year, to clean and maintain the shelter, feed, love, and care for our furry residents, organize and run adoptions, provide foster homes, fundraise, and attend to the administrative and financial tasks.

Over the past few years, the organization has grown and we now have an adoption center, sanctuary with an outdoor covered cat run, and other faculties. We continue to value our partnership with local pet stores that allows us to showcase the cats to assist them in finding their furever homes.

We hope you will join us in honor of all the cats that deserved better. We cannot do this without all of the generous support that we receive and we thank each of you. You are making a difference in the lives of the cats.

"You can do something big, you can do something small, because whatever you do, is better than nothing at all."
