Testimonials

The first contact I had with the Colorado Fallen Hero Foundation was on January 25, 2018, when Danny Veith was standing in my living room helping me, or pretty much planning my son's funeral, because I was in no shape to do it myself. I don't remember much about that meeting but I do remember the funeral was beautiful and honorable, total respect for my son. Danny explained what each tradition meant, we were encouraged to add things that we would like. I was able to be a pallbearer for my son. I carried him the first day he was born and wanted to be able to carry him the last day he was here. James 'Jim' Gumm, Father of Heath McDonald Gumm EOW January 24, 2018

We had a major investigation. We had five officers that were shot, one was killed, we had civilians who were also shot. The investigation took over an apartment complex. We did not have enough people to handle the investigation. The Colorado Fallen Hero Foundation came in with over 50 plus people from all skill sets across public safety and planned the entire ceremony. It is planning an event for over 3000 people in a week. Giving Activity

Mission

Our Mission is to honor fallen law enforcement officers, respect and support their survivors.

Background Statement

The Colorado Fallen Hero Foundation was established in 2017. We are patterned after Behind the Badge Foundation of Washington State. Since our inception we have assisted the Adams, Douglas, and Las Animas County Sheriff's Offices, Colorado State Patrol, the Arvada, Boulder and, Commerce City Police Departments. We were honored to assist these agencies and humbled to see first-hand how communities rally around their law enforcement agencies to provide support in many different forms when tragedy strikes.

When a line of duty death occurs, we assist, support, and provide resources for a host agency in their effort to serve the deceased officer's family based on their needs and wishes. Our presence allows agency members to participate in honoring their colleague without the pressure of funeral planning, allowing them an appropriate time to grieve.

Planning a line of duty death funeral while handling the associated investigation and the routine of the everyday call load can overwhelm any agency. Our team of professionals integrates with agency personnel to assist with funeral planning to whatever extent the family and the agency desire.

In addition to providing line-of-duty death response and memorial planning, the CFHF is proud to provide peer support and mental health resources for agencies that do not have access to such resources. We deploy a team of trained public safety peer support professionals anywhere in the state to assist agencies dealing with a line-of-duty death. We understand the impact such a tragedy has on an agency and a community and want to ensure that we are taking care of our fellow officers.

When necessary, our services are provided at no cost to the agency and there is never a cost to the family.
