What We Do
Broomfield STEM is creating a safe, vibrant community of belonging centered on STEM learning. We offer hands-on, extra-curricular learning opportunities for students in preschool - 12th grades by partnering with local educators and STEM professionals who inspire students to pursue their interest in STEM fields. We work with local schools and non-profit organizations to reach students for whom quality STEM education may seem out of reach, and we're building support systems to assist all our students to pursue careers in STEM. Everything we do is driven by our core values of belonging, curiosity, collaboration, innovation, impact and play. We believe that committing to our mission and values today will help build a stronger, more diverse STEM workforce for tomorrow. Therefore we strive to recruit and equip all students who have a passion for STEM, regardless of their race, gender identity, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, country of origin, language, or special learning needs. All are welcome in Broomfield STEM!
Our flagship program, Broomfield Robotics, engages 115+ students in grades K-12 in age-appropriate, hands-on competitive robotics. Students in Broomfield Robotics are part of FIRST, an international organization that prepares students for a future in STEM. Mentored by more than 40 volunteer engineers, teachers and other qualified professionals, our students develop skills in teamwork, leadership, problem solving, mechanical design and assembly, CAD (Computer Aided Drafting), programming, technical writing, public speaking, business management, photography/videography, graphic design, and more. While the students focus on building innovative and competitive robots, the mentors are focused on helping students develop the skills they need to thrive now and in the future. As FIRST founder Dean Kamen says, “We are not using kids to build robots. We are using robots to build kids.”

How You Can Help
Demand for STEM education is rapidly growing in the North West Metro area including Broomfield, Boulder, Adams and northern Jefferson counties. Broomfield is centrally located and draws students and mentors from all four counties and their respective school districts. We have just begun to scratch the surface of what is possible in terms of reach and impact, but we need additional financial support to do so.
Accessibility is one of our top priorities, and this means keeping our student fees as low as possible for our families, many of whom are struggling to make ends meet. We make scholarships available for our students because we never want cost to be a barrier to participation. Student fees and donated scholarships will covered approximately 40% of our operating expenses for the 2025-2025 fiscal year. Corporate sponsorships, private donations and grants will fund the remaining 60%. We expect the percentage of funding needed from those later sources will increase in the coming years.
As our program continues to grow, so does our need for space and paid staff. Increased funding will allow us to rent additional dedicated spaces and pay key leaders so we can offer a wider variety of STEM opportunities to students. We are seeking the financial support of donors and sponsors to make this possible expansion a reality. You can learn more about becoming a sponsor of Broomfield STEM on our website.
