Mission
Breckenridge History enhances our community's future by discovering, preserving, and sharing our diverse and extraordinary history.
Featured Program
Breckenridge History works to provide free educational programs to students across Summit County. In 2023, we worked with Proyecto Thrive to establish a new after school program to help serve the students and families in our area. In 2025 we expanded the programs to Mondays and Wednesdays and up to 30 students per day participate. So far, our program has run at all Summit County elementary schools and we're currently at Summit Cove and Dillon Valley. We've stepped in at critical times such as when educators needed to be at the capital for funding advocacy and school was at risk of closing that day. School program staff has also grown from three to five to better support the expanding program and student needs.
In addition to our after school program, we offer free in-class activities and field trips, as well as partnering with other local organizations to offer educational trips during the summer. This summer we offered 48 field trips. In 2025, we have served 2,045 students to date.

To further include students in history and the community, student work has been featured in the Welcome Center Museum through the
My Museum exhibit. Having their works on display helps build student confidence, connect the community to our education programs, and have students see history in action.

Testimonials
The following are from Google reviews:
"Small, quaint, unique museum. If you like taxidermy, this is a great place to visit. Great history and free. The staff on site was very informative. Worth going to." - on the Edwin Carter Museum
"Breck's history is colorful and the History Museum tour guides are obviously enthralled. They share their research into the archives, making me wish I could read those journals left by so many who loved and hated the harsh climate and hard work. I live here and I want to go on all of the tours again and again." - on the Walk Through History Tour
"Jim, our guide, was so knowledgeable about the history and geology of the mines and their impact ro [sic] the community and the environment. We kept a good pace and covered the trail in enough time to stop and soak in the beautiful scenery. Found this trip at the visitors center, in the back. Well worth the fee. Recommend this for first timers like us." - on Hike the Golden Horseshoe
"Amazing free tour. Very interesting information on prominent Breckenridge citizen" - on the Barney Ford Museum
