For nearly 40 years, Boulder County Farmers Markets has invited neighbors to enjoy delicious, local food and uplift Colorado agriculture. Yet, right here in our very own community, the future of farming is uncertain. When you make a contribution to BCFM, you’re investing in a future where local food is accessible to all, farmers and our local ecosystem thrive, and we can continue to rely on our seasonal farmers markets as a gathering place for decades to come. You also become part of a growing community of supporters who believe in fresh, local food, strong farms, and vibrant neighborhoods.
Donations to Boulder County Farmers Markets helps us:
For nearly 40 years, Boulder County Farmers Markets has invited neighbors to enjoy delicious, local food and uplift Colorado agriculture. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that is dedicated to strengthening our food system by supporting, promoting, and expanding access to locally grown and made products for all members of our community. We do this by operating Seasonal Farmers Markets, a year-round Food Hub, and impactful Food Access programs that connect and strengthen relationships between local farmers, producers, and enthusiastic eaters.
Boulder County Farmers Markets grew from a community passionate about local food and sustainable agriculture. What began as a small gathering has become a cornerstone of Colorado's food system.
Boulder County Farmers Market launched its first market season on June 11, 1987, founded by John MacKenzie, John Ellis (Farmer John), and other local farmers working with county commissioner Josie Heath and Boulder City Council to preserve local agriculture.
From 7 original farmers to over 175 vendors today, we've remained proudly producer-only—a launchpad for brands like Justin's and Noosa, and home to multi-generational farming families.
As we look toward the next forty years, BCFM's Strategic Plan sets up a path to fortify our food system, uplift agricultural producers, and nourish our neighbors for generations to come.
