Help Protect Birds in Latin America & Celebrate World Migratory Bird Day!

Join us in protecting migratory birds by funding interns, educators, and Bird City Programs across Latin America. Your support directly empowers communities to host educational events, improve habitats, and inspire the next generation of conservationists.

Fund a Bird City

Bird Cities are towns and communities committed to protecting birds and their habitats. Through the Bird City Network, run by the American Bird Conservancy (ABC) and Environment for the Americas (EFTA), communities take action by:

  • Restoring natural habitats and planting native species

  • Reducing hazards to birds (like window collisions and free-ranging cats)

  • Engaging citizens through education, volunteerism, and citizen science

  • Promoting sustainable urban planning and green spaces

  • Host an annual World Migratory Bird Day event in their community

How you can help:

  • $200 → Covers the cost of a Bird City registration for communities that need it

  • $100 → Provides a World Migratory Bird Day Event Kit for a new Bird City

Supporting Bird Cities helps communities become safer, greener, and more bird-friendly, benefiting people and wildlife alike.

Support World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) Event Kits

Each year, hundreds of educators across Latin America and the Caribbean organize World Migratory Bir Day events to raise awareness about migratory birds. Many work in remote communities with limited resources.

What are "Happy Kits"? Happy Kits are colorful, engaging packages filled with educational materials, including:

  • Coloring sheets, decorative bird masks, posters, stickers, pins, and buttons

  • Accessible scientific content for all ages

These kits help educators host fun, interactive events that inspire families to care for birds and nature.

Why they matter:

  • Bring high-quality, science-based materials to schools with limited resources

  • Make learning fun and memorable for children and families

  • Support volunteer educators in spreading conservation messages

Testimonials

"The impact of becoming a Bird City will be immeasurable: people working with conservation will feel more empowered and the population will feel more responsible for bird care. Most importantly, children will be born in Brazil’s first Bird City and will proudly carry this flag, being ambassadors for birds throughout their lives.”

-Bruno Lima, our partner in Peruibe, Brazil, comments on the country's first Bird City established in October 2024.

"Being part of a diversity conservation corps and being surrounded by people that look like me, that have had similar experiences, made me feel like I belonged…This [internship] experience shaped me to be a more confident and prepared emerging leader in conservation."

-Diana Rodriguez, Crew Lead 2023 -Saguaro National Park

"Environment for the Americas has the quality education materials we've been looking for."

Mission

Environment for the Americas is committed to connecting diverse people to nature and bird conservation. We lead global partnerships focused on bird conservation and protecting migratory species and their habitats across borders. We achieve our goals through partnerships and by supporting the next generation of conservationists with education, outreach, and valuable opportunities.

Background Statement

At Environment for the Americas (EFTA), we firmly believe that each person plays a role in safeguarding our planet's precious bird populations and the ecosystems that support them. Our efforts extend into diverse communities, nurturing a profound respect for nature.

When you support EFTA, you're not just providing financial assistance; you're contributing to a legacy that transcends borders and cultures. Your generosity fuels initiatives like World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD), hummingbird research, and monarch butterfly preservation. Your contributions pave the way for environmental stewardship that will empower meaningful change.

We have so much to be thankful for, and together, we can make an even bigger impact this season of giving. Consider making a tax-deductible donation to Environment for the Americas. Your generous gift will directly support conservation and education programs, including:

-Engaging internships that empower diverse early-career professionals in natural resources and related fields

-Creating and distributing bird education materials to hundreds of partners across the Americas

-Developing strategic conservation plans to benefit migratory hummingbirds, shorebirds, and other key species

-Providing trainings, webinars, and valuable learning opportunities
