About Us

RESTAURANT AND HOSPITALITY WORKERS ARE IN CRISIS. WE SERVE HOPE.

The highest concentration of need in the nation is hidden behind the smiles of those working in the restaurant and hospitality industry. Big Table cares for restaurant and hospitality workers in crisis through timely interventions, intentional relationships, and transformational care.

CARING FOR THEM STRATEGICALLY IMPACTS THE WHOLE COMMUNITY. One in six lives below the poverty line. Most don't have basic benefits. And a large part of the workforce is comprised of our most vulnerable neighbors - single parents, income insecure seniors, at-risk teens, immigrants, and those formerly incarcerated ready to make a new start. Many struggle with addiction and mental health issues, broken relationships, and chronically extreme stress. Many were already barely hanging on. And then pandemic shutdowns shattered the industry top to bottom.

Yet because this is the HOSPITALITY industry and people keep smiles on their faces to keep their jobs, almost no one sees that they are right on the edge about to fall. When someone does fall, there's not a safety net to catch them. That's where we come in.

BIG TABLE. BIG NET. Started in 2009 in Spokane, Big Table is the only non-profit in the country that provides crisis triage care as well as long-term mentoring and support for those in crisis in the restaurant and hospitality industry. We meet folks at the exact moment of need with exactly the help they need.

We now care for workers in:

Spokane, WA
Palouse Area (Moscow, ID and Pullman, WA)
San Diego, CA (including Chula Vista)
Nashville, TN
Colorado Springs, CO

IT ALL STARTS WITH A REFERRAL. No matter what their struggle might be - whether it's making rent, paying for daycare, or getting medical treatment - we are here with the lifeline they need.

HELPING BEYOND THE CRISIS. Our involvement doesn't end when the crisis ends. At Big Table, we provide long-term coaching and mentoring. We foster enduring relationships and accountability. We build bonds. Many of those we help, return to help others, building a true community that lasts.

WE SERVE HOPE. You can, too. Simply by supporting Big Table.

Mission

Big Table exists to see the lives of those working in the restaurant and hospitality industry transformed by building community and caring for those who are in crisis, transition, or falling through the cracks.

Background Statement

Big Table exists to see the lives of those working in the restaurant and hospitality industry transformed by building community and caring for those in crisis, transition, or falling through the cracks. In short, Big Table exists to serve hope to everyone in the industry.

Our mission is grounded in the bedrock of our Christian faith. We believe that every human being is of infinite value, created by God for a life of abundance. Sadly, one of the hardest places to work in our country is the restaurant and hospitality industry. We want to change that for everyone in the industry.

We care for all joyfully with no strings attached, regardless of religious beliefs or anything else!

Inspired by Acts 2, Big Table started around a table where all had a seat. We are committed to sharing our resources with those most in need and breaking bread together to form a supportive community of unconditional care.

To both see and meet triage needs and build long-term capacity in lives.

To bring the light of real tangible hope to the darkness in the world through intentional, life-giving love and relationship.

That’s what Jesus did, and it is what He is calling us to do too.
